The Mapper
Basic directions and tips can be found below. For more detail, try the Mapper Tutorial.
Mapping Tips
NOTE: This mapper contains an "Automatic Refresh" feature. When this is activated, changes made in the legend will be made in the map without clicking the "Refresh Map" button. It is more efficient to uncheck Auto Refresh, make changes, then click Refresh Map- particularly if changing multiple layers at once. The default setting has the Automatic Refresh feature turned off.

For best overall performance, do not leave layers on unnecessarily.
If the feature you want does not appear, zoom in more- some map layers are only visible close-up (i.e. parcel boundaries, Census blocks, streets). This symbol means you aren't at the correct zoom level.
Remember- you can only perform an action (i.e. select, buffer, hyperlink) on the active theme (click the radio button to make theme active). Note also that the layer must be visible (checked) to perform an action.
To bring tabular data (from the lower viewer pane) into a spreadsheet for analysis on your own computer (or printing), swipe-select all of the fields, open a spreadsheet program such as Excel, then Paste Special (as HTML). Save the spreadsheet.
When you buffer or measure, make sure that your map units are set correctly.
One of the best features is the hyperlink tool. Make Parcels or Mill Sites the active theme, enable hyperlink, and click on any parcel- its card will pop up. IMPORTANT: If you have a popup blocker, you must either turn it off completely or enable popups for this site.
Have patience! Performance can be slow, especially on a modem.

Search Tips
To locate an address, type the street number and name, but leave off the type (ST, AVE, etc.). If the search returns no results, try two or four away in either direction. If that fails, search the whole street and look at owner name in the results. The database only includes one address per property and sometimes a two family is listed by the other address (68 v. 66, etc.). Commercial addresses are particularly troublesome.

To find a parcel or parcels owned by a particular person or company, try using just the person's last name or a partial company name. You may get more records back, but unless you know EXACTLY how the property is listed it is better to simplify your search term.
